Extraordinarily Strong and Waterproof Design
This design provides a structurally rigid and extraordinarily strong “sheer wall”, which is also waterproof, lightweight and has exceptional insulation quality. The primary structure is built above the local flood plain. In short, our homes are:
- hurricane resistant
- flood resistant
- moisture resistant
- fire resistant
- insect resistant
- deterioration resistant – nothing to rust, rot or corrode
- energy efficient
- quality – factory built to specs
- flexible – our small homes can be relocated, expanded or replaced by a larger one
We offer two very different types of homes both using this unique SIP building technology, the first being the KeysLight.
Sturdy, Time Honored Design
Originally named the ChesLight, the KeysLight is an octagonal home modeled after the sturdy screwpile lighthouses that once lined the coast of the Chesapeake Bay. The octagonal shape restricts wind pressure on any given wall, deflecting high winds around the building. An interior timber structure provides both strength and beauty. The standard model is 32’ diameter and 2-3 stories above flood plain depending on allowable height restrictions. All considered, the KeysLight is the ultimate coastal home, providing a nautical design, sweeping views, comfort and security like no other.
Tiny and Small Homes
We are also offering “affordable housing” using the same SIP construction system. These attractive, seamless, monolithic homes are designed to withstand hurricane winds and flooding. There are several size variations ranging from “tiny home” size “single-wide” models to much larger “double-wide” models.
The Conch… Our introductory single-wide model, The Conch is a 12′ wide x 32′ long x 12′ high residence aimed at replacing a small “single-wide” mobile home. This one-bedroom, one-bathroom design features an optional loft over the kitchen area that can serve as a second bedroom or storage area. Longer “single wide” versions will be added.
Double-Wide Models Available
The Triton… We are also developing double-wide models of various lengths. The introductory model, The Triton is 24’ wide x 32’ long, offering either one or two bedroom options. The one-bedroom option features a large bedroom and bathroom, while the two-bedroom option features two smaller bedrooms and one bathroom.
The challenge for conventional construction is in the building and connecting of multiple components such as foundations, walls, roofs, floors, ceiling, insulation, drywall, and more at an exposed job site using any number of tradesmen.
Our homes can be quickly built as modules in the factory, while home-site is prepared for installation, substantially reducing total construction time while maximizing quality control. The modules are transported to the site and typically installed by crane on top of prebuilt pilings or other raised foundation in accordance with the local flood code. As a factory-built and portable building, our homes have the potential to be legally classified as a modular home (similar to traditional built) or as a manufactured home (similar to mobile home or RV).
In the event our home becomes too small or not suitable for any reason, it can be sold, detached, moved, and replaced with a larger or more suitable design. For some models, additional modules can be built and added to the existing home to increase it’s size and functionality.
